Numerical Control (NC) Defined Định nghĩa Programmable automation (lập trình tự động) in which the mechanical actions (chu trình công nghệ) of a ‘machine tool’ are controlled by a program containing coded alphanumeric data that represents relative positions between a work head (e.g., cutting tool) and a work part ProgramProgram MachineMachine InstructionsInstructions Control UnitControl Unit Transformation Process Hình d ng, v t li u,ạ ậ ệ Power tính ch t hóa hấ ọc Power

NC Coordinate Systems For flat and prismatic (block-like) parts:  Milling and drilling operations  Conventional Cartesian coordinate system  Rotational axes about each linear axis For rotational parts:  Turning operations  Only x- and z-axes

Page 6

Motion Control Systems (Điều khiển chuyển động) Point-to-Point systems (Điểm)  Also called position systems  System moves to a location and performs an operation at that location (e.g., drilling)  Also applicable in robotics Continuous path systems (Đường)  Also called contouring systems in machining  System performs an operation during movement (e.g., milling and turning)

Interpolation Methods (Nội suy) 1. Linear interpolation (đường thẳng)  Straight line between two points in space 2. Circular interpolation  Circular arc defined by starting point, end point, center or radius, and direction 3. Helical interpolation  Circular plus linear motion 4. Parabolic and cubic interpolation  Free form curves using higher order equations

Absolute vs. Incremental Positioning Tọa độ tuyệt đối và tương đối Absolute positioning Move is: x = 40, y = 50 Incremental positioning Move is: x = 20, y = 30.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC)  Storage of more than one part program (bộ nhớ chứa nhiều hơn một chương trình)  Various forms of program input (Nhiều đầu vào, interface)  Program editing at the machine tool  Fixed cycles and programming subroutines (chứa các chương trình gia công sẵn và các chương trình con)  Interpolation (Nội suy)  Acceleration and deceleration computations (Gia tốc và giảm tốc)  Communications interface  Diagnostics (Phát hiện lỗi)

DNC  Direct numerical control (DNC) – control of multiple machine tools by a single (mainframe) computer through direct connection and in real time. Điều khiển nhiều máy bởi một máy tính chung  1960s technology  Two way communication  Distributed numerical control (DNC) – network consisting of central computer connected to machine tool MCUs, which are CNC  Present technology  Two way communication (kết nối hai chiều)

NC Application Characteristics (Machining)  Batch and High Volume production (Day chuyền với năng suất cao và sản xuất hang loạt)  Repeat and/or Repetitive orders (Thực hiện các công việc gia công thực hiện lại liên tục)  Complex part geometries (Chi tiết với biên dạng, hình dáng phức tạp)  Mundane operations (Công việc nhàm chán)  Many separate operations on one part (Chi tiết có nhiều bước gia công khác nhau)

Page 16

Cost-Benefits of NC Costs  High investment cost (Chi phí đầu tư ban đầu lớn)  High maintenance effort (Chi phí phí bảo dưỡng lớn)  Need for skilled programmers (Cần người lập trình có kĩ năng)  High utilization required (Cần nhiều dụng cụ được chuẩn hóa) Benefits  Cycle time reduction (Thời gian gia công)  Nonproductive time reduction (Giảm thời gian chết, gá đặt, thay dao…)  Greater accuracy and repeatability (Gia công với độ chính xác cao hơn và độ lặp)  Lower scrap rates (Tỉ lệ sử dụng phôi, cắt ít vật liệu hơn)  Reduced parts inventory and floor space (Giảm yêu cầu kho vận của chi tiết và giảm yêu cầu sử dụng diện tích nhà xưởng)  Operator skill-level reduced (Yêu cầu không cao với người đứng máy)

Page 18

Manual Part Programming Binary Coded Decimal System  Each of the ten digits in decimal system (0-9) is coded with four-digit binary number  The binary numbers are added to give the value  BCD is compatible with 8 bits across tape format, the original storage medium for NC part programs  Eight bits can also be used for letters and symbols

Page 20

Creating Instructions for NC  Bit - 0 or 1 = absence or presence of hole in the tape  Character - row of bits across the tape  Word - sequence of characters (e.g., y-axis position)  Block - collection of words to form one complete instruction  Part program - sequence of instructions (blocks)
